Safer Internet Day - SID - is in February Every Year
The Safer Internet Day (SID) is a commendable initiative organized by the UK Safer Internet Centre each February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technologies, especially amongst children. Each year hundreds of localized and virtual events are organized to raise awareness about online safety issues.
The UK Safer Internet Centre has three main functions: An Awareness Centre, a Helpline and a Hotline. It is co-funded by the European Commission (EC) and brought to you by a partnership of three leading organizations:
zvelo encourages its valued OEM Partners and other information security professionals and organizations to partake in promoting SID to help local communities around the globe discover the digital world together and safely! Here are a few examples of how supporters within the high technology sector support Safer Internet Day each year:
AT&T proudly supports the work of the UK Safer Internet Centre for SID and hosts conversations on its Policy Blog for Europe about issues in the European Union that influence the telecommunications industry today and in the future.
Bitdefender promotes SID on its website with “safego” – a free Facebook security app, a social media infographic + e-guides.
- Kaspersky Lab
For SID, Kaspersky Lab provides simple top tips to help families and individuals stay safe online via a "Safer" web portal. In addition to online safety tips, Kaspersky Lab published a Guide to stopping cyber crime.
Google is part of the SID Connecting Generations debate and maintains a Family Safe Centre to provide parents and teachers with tools, tips and advice to control the content their children see online, plus other resources to help kids understand how to use Google services safely.
Yahoo! is proud to support SID globally with tips and videos on online safety, reaching millions of people around the world with its Yahoo! Safely web portal.
zvelo actively promotes SID across its various social media channels. In Twitter, for instance, @zvelosecurity will leverage the official hashtag and will engage with the @UK_SIC handle. In addition, zvelo includes an SID mention within its OEM Partner Newsletters and publish zveloBLOG articles stuffed with links to various online resources, guides and/or reports that parents, teachers and care givers in any community can learn from to ensure productive and safe experiences online.
