IPv6 has been supported by operating systems and network equipment for several years. Now it is time for application, library and service providers to step up and support it, too. This can be as easy as recompiling or it can be very difficult. zveloLABS® previously discussed some of the challenges in supporting IPv6, in addition to providing examples of IPv6 malware that may be encountered in the wild. However difficult supporting IPv6 may be, it has become a necessity. Software applications using third-party components will not be able to operate in the IPv6 environment unless their components support it. As such, software components and services that don’t support IPv6 will hold their users back and will eventually be replaced with other components that do.
zvelo is one of those software providers that has made a firm commitment to supporting IPv6, so that its technology partners are not held back in terms of web coverage and accuracy. With exceptional results achieved following extensive internal testing, zvelo has added support for IPv6 to its dynamic web content categorization services in the following ways:
- zvelo AI-based categorization engine (AutoCat) can now access websites by their IPv6 addresses.
- The zveloDB® – URL database records IPv6 DNS for IPv6 reverse lookups.
- The on-disk zveloDB library and zvelo’s cloud services support IPv6 address lookups (ex: http://ipv6.he.net/).
- All of the zveloNET cloud systems have been upgraded to support both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
