Social Media Experiment Raises Online Privacy Eyebrow
Jack Vale, a prankster, conducted an experiment to test how much personal information can be stitched together from skimming through social media posts made within his immediate location. He was able to identify numerous individuals that uploaded pictures of themselves to Instagram and other social media sites having coffee, hanging with friends or enjoying a meal. He simply matched their headwear and outfits to the pictures. From the social media posts, Jack was able to spark conversations by piecing together bits and pieces of information such as real names, including those of relatives and pets, birthdays, foods and drinks of choice, and occupations.
Sure it made great chit chat after the fact, but as one can see from the reactions in the official video below, Jack came across as being either psychic or down right creepy. Jack put it best in a follow up reveal video by saying:
“Your information isn’t as private as you might think it is to total strangers.”
