The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) works tirelessly, year after year, to help eliminate child sexual abuse imagery online. Through their work with industry partners worldwide, hotlines, and anonymous reporting centers—IWF web analysts help to identify, report, and remove illicit imagery in the United Kingdom and beyond.
Headlines of graphic and illicit content continue to plague the most popular online media, social networking, and streaming platforms. But, thanks to the vigilance and commitment from organizations like the Internet Watch Foundation—there are hotlines and anonymous reporting tools that help put an end to the spread of child sexual abuse imagery online.
In 2018, IWF helped remove or clean over 100,000 webpages showing sexual abuse of children—representing a one-third increase over 2017 efforts. And just last month, the IWF helped make Safer Internet Day 2019 the largest and most successful in history with over 2,163 registered organizations across the UK helping to support the cause. Continued awareness and efforts like this will be critical as governments around the world address regulations that protect internet users—while avoiding harmful unintended consequences that may have a negative impact on internet users.
